College football begins in earnest tonight. This year, I’ll be posting a Heisman HYPE game of the week every Thursday, spotlighting a game withpotential Heisman implications. In addition, I’ll also be updating the rankings from the Heisman HYPE model each week as well. Without further ado…
Week 1 Heisman HYPE Game of the Week
#1 Ohio State at Virginia Tech
First and foremost, this game features two (or three depending on Ohio State’s quarterback situation) Heisman aspirants. To add to the interest in this game, recall that Virginia Tech came into Columbus and beat Ohio State last year, giving the Buckeyes their only loss of the season. On top of that, Joey Bosa, perhaps the top defensive player in the nation, is suspended for the game, along with Jalin Marshall, Dontre Wilson and Corey Smith, the Buckeyes’ third, fourth and fifth leading recievers from last year, respectively. That means we will likely see a healthy dose of Ezekiel Elliott (who only had 8 carries for 32 yards in last year’s loss to the Hokies) to kick off his Heisman campaign.
