This is the final ranking before the finalists are announced this week and the Heisman Trophy is awarded on Saturday. Baker Mayfield cemented his #1 spot with 243 passing yards and 4 touchdowns along with 65 rushing yards in the Sooner’s big win over TCU which clinched their stop in the College Football Playoff for the second straight year. Jonathan Taylor was held to 41 yards rushing in Wisconsin’s loss to Ohio State, the Badgers’ first loss of the season, which, unfortunately came at the worst possible time, keeping them out of the playoff. Bryce Love’s 125 yards rushing and 1 TD weren’t enough to get Stanford past USC in the Pac-12 Championship game.

Thanks for following along this season. Tune in Saturday night to see if Baker does, in fact take home this year’s Heisman Trophy.

Week 13 Heisman HYPE Rankings

Rank Previous Rank Name Position School

6 6 Sam Darnold QB USC

Baker Mayfield stayed at #1 after cruising to a win over West Virginia despite sitting out the first series a punishment for his antics the previous week. Jonathan Taylor ran for 149 yards and a touchdown in a win against Minnesota. Bryce Love ran for 125 yards in Stanford’s statement win over Notre Dame. Newcomer to the list Kerryon Johnson’s 104 yards rushing and a touchdown were the key in Auburn’s upset win over Alabama to earn the Tigers a spot in the SEC Championship game against Georgia, whom they beat just two weeks ago.

Six out of the current top 10 players (Mayfield, Taylor, Love, Darnold, Johnson and Barrett)  will be playing in conference championship games this coming week, giving them a final opportunity to add to their Heisman case. Come by next week for the final ranking before the Heisman Trophy ceremony on December 9th.

8 7 JT Barrett QB Ohio State
9 NR Rashaad Penny RB San Diego State
10 9 Jalen Hurts QB Alabama

Baker Mayfield stayed at #1 after a strong (although unsurprising) performance against Kansas, which may have garnered more attention for him being left hanging for a pregame handshake as well as some sideline antics than for anything that happened on the field. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 132 yards in a big win for Michigan. Saquon Barkley got himself back on track after a few down weeks with 158 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns along with 66 receiving yards in Penn State’s win over Nebraska. With only this coming weeks of rivalry games and the conference championship games remaining, only time is almost up for these players to make any last impressions on the Heisman voters.

Baker Mayfield strengthened his hold on the top spot with a big game in the Sooners’ win over TCU, putting up 333 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 157 yards in a big win for Wisconsin over Iowa, the Badgers’ first win over a ranked opponent this season. Bryce Love had a huge game in Stanford’s win over Washington, rushing for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns. Things are winding down and the top contenders seem to be getting clearer as we near December.

Week 10 Heisman HYPE Rankings

Rank Previous Rank Name Position School

2 1 Jonathan Taylor RB Wisconsin
3 5 Josh Adams RB Notre Dame
4 2 Saquon Barkley RB Penn State

8 9 Lamar Jackson QB Louisville
9 6 JT Barrett QB Ohio State
10 NR Nick Chubb RB Georgia

Once again, the top 5 is shaken up. Saquon Barkley falls further down the list after being limited to 96 yards from in Penn State’s last second loss to Michigan State and being held out of the end zone for the first time this year. Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield had an incredible game in Oklahoma’s big win over Oklahoma State, putting up 598 yards passing and 5 touchdowns, plus another touchdown rushing. He leads the Sooners against TCU in a big matchup this week that could help push Oklahoma into the College Football Playoff and bolster his Heisman resume. Some other Heisman hopefuls have big games this week as well, with Bryce Love and Stanford facing Washington, Josh Adams and Notre Dame going up against undefeated Miami, and Jonathan Taylor leads Wisconsin against a strong Iowa team. Check back next week to see how things shake out.

Week 9 Heisman HYPE Rankings

Rank Previous Rank Name Position School
1 4 Jonathan Taylor RB Wisconsin
2 1 Sqauon Barkley RB Penn State
3 3 Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma
4 2 Bryce  Love RB Stanford

6 NR JT Barrett QB Ohio State
7 8 Sam Darnold QB USC
8 5 Jalen Hurts QB Alabama
9 10 Lamar Jackson QB Louisville
10 9 Mason Rudolph QB Oklahoma State

Another shake up in the top 5 as Penn State suffered its first loss of the season to Ohio State in a thrilling game. Saquon Barkley starting things off with a bang, taking the opening kickoff back for a touchdown. The Buckeye defense largely kept him in check the rest of the day, limiting him to 67 yards from scrimmage (by far his lowest total of the season) and one rushing touchdown. In addition to knocking Barkley from the top spot in the Heisman HYPE rankings, it also puts Penn State in a tough spot in the Big Ten and CFB Playoff picture.

Elsewhere, Josh Adams made a strong statement in Notre Dame’s big win over North Carolina State, rushing for 202 yards and a touchdown. He joins Barkley, Bryce Love and our new #1 Jonathan Taylor at the top of a running back-heavy list of Heisman contenders.

Everyone in the top 10 still has some big matchups left to add to their case for the Heisman, but things are getting down to the wire.

Week 8 Heisman HYPE Rankings

Rank Previous Rank Name Position School
1 1 Saquon Barkley RB Penn State
2 2 Bryce Love RB Stanford
3 3 Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma

7 6 Nick Chubb RB Georgia
8 4 Sam Darnold QB USC
9 9 Mason Rudolph QB Oklahoma State
10 NR Lamar Jackson QB Louisville

The top 5 saw some movement again this week as USC loss to Notre Dame hurt Sam Darnold. The top 3 remain unchanged. Wisconsin’s freshman running back Jonathan Taylor continues to put up outstanding numbers for the Badgers as they remain undefeated. Saquon Barkley had another solid performance in a win against Michigan, notching rushing and receiving touchdowns to go along with 161 yards from scrimmage. Just about every player currently in the top 10 has at least one big game left against a ranked opponent, giving them a chance to make a strong impression to close out the season.

Another week with major movement in the rankings, as two of the players in the top 10 saw their teams lose their first games of the season in Jake Browning of Washington and Luke Falk of Washington State. These two fell all the way out of the top 10, with both of their teams falling from the AP top 10 as well. Saquon Barkley held on to the top spot with a bye this week, but Bryce Love is giving him some serious competition. Jonathan Taylor made a major move cracking the top top 5 as he and Wisconsin are making some serious noise in the Big Ten. Expect to see some more things shift with big conference games this coming week.

Week 6 Heisman HYPE Rankings

Rank Previous Rank Name Position School
1 1 Saquon Barkley RB Penn State
2 2 Jake Browning QB Washington
3 9 Bryce Love RB Stanford
4 4 Luke Falk QB Washington State

7 7 Trace McSorley QB Penn State
8 10 Nick Chubb RB Georgia
9 8 Josh Rosen QB UCLA
10 NR Kelly Bryant QB Clemson

Some more movement in the top 10 after another exciting week in College Football. Baker Mayfield dropped down to 5th after OU was upset by Iowa State in Norman. Stanford’s Bryce Love made a big jump into the top 5 after another big game on the ground in Stanford’s win over Utah. Saquon Barkley held on to the top spot as he continues to make it look easy, while Jake Browning had another solid game as Washington remains undefeated as well. With Washington, Washington State and Stanford all having to play each other in the coming weeks, it will be interesting to see what happens to the rankings as we get deeper into conference play.

Week 5 Heisman HYPE Rakings

Rank Previous Rank Name Position School
1 4 Saquon Barkley RB Penn State
2 2 Jake Browning QB Washington
3 1 Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma
4 7 Luke Falk QB Washington State
5 3 Sam Darnold QB USC
6 8 Lamar Jackson QB Louisville
7 5 Trace McSorley QB Penn State
8 9 Josh Rosen QB UCLA
9 NR Bryce Love RB Stanford
10 10 Nick Chubb RB Georgia

There was a lot of movement in the top 5, with Barkley moving up to #1 after his do-it-all performance against Indiana. Sam Darnold’s performance in USC’s loss to Washington State (in what I picked to be the game of the week) caused him to slip down to #5; that same game catapulted Luke Falk up to #4. Baker Mayfield slipped to #3 just because of OU’s bye this week, but don’t expect to see him fall out of the top 5 if he continues to play at the level he has been. Bryce Love cracked the top 10 after an impressive performance in Stanford’s win over Arizona State in which he ran for 301 yards, breaking Christian McCaffrey’s school single-game rushing yardage record. We’re getting into the thick of conference play this next few weeks, so expect to see some more movement in the rankings. See you soon.
