We close the year at Heisman HYPE as we began, with Lamar Jackson at #1. Of last week’s top 10 (which is also this week’s) only half played this weekend. Deshaun Watson and Baker Mayfield both had impressive games this weekend, while the other 3 members of the top 5 were at home watching.

Donnel Pumphrey passed Ricky Williams for 2nd in FBS career rushing yards while eclipsing the 2000 yard mark on the season. We shall see who gets the invite to New York.

Week 13 Heisman HYPE Rankings

7 8 D’Onta Foreman RB Texas
8 6 Jake Browning QB Washington
9 NR Adoree’ Jackson CB/KR USC
10 9 Donnel Pumphrey RB San Diego State

Another Louisville loss to close out their regular season is disappointing no doubt. Despite 3 interceptions, Lamar Jackson had a solid day (281 passing yards and 2 TDs along with 171 rushing  yards and 2 TDs), becoming only the 6th FBS player to achieve 20 passing touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns in a single season (Jordan Lynch, Johnny Manziel, Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton, Tim Tebow). His body of work looks to be sufficient to wrap up the Heisman even without playing in a conference championship game.

Adoree’ Jackson had quite a day against Notre Dame to get himself on the board, scoring touchdowns on a punt return, kickoff return and a reception.

Despite the disappointing season for the Texas Longhorns, who failed to become bowl eligible, D’Onta Foreman became only the second ever Longhorn (after Ricky Williams) to rush for 2000 yards in a season.

Lamar Jackson continued to impress against Wake Forest. Clemson’s loss leaves the door open for Jackson and Louisville to make in to the ACC title game and the College Football Playoff. Meanwhile, Michigan’s loss adds intrigue to their upcoming matchup against Ohio State.

9 10 Josh Dobbs QB Tennessee
10 6 Tommy Armstrong QB Nebraska

The top three players in this week’s Heisman HYPE rankings all had very close victories, although Lamar Jackson and Louisville’s win over Virginia was very surprising to even be a contest. Nebraska suffered their first loss of the season to Wisconsin, knocking Tommy Armstrong down 4 spots in the rankings.

Lamar Jackson hangs on to the top spot again after an impressive performance in Louisville’s win against NC State (355 passing yards with 3 TDs along with 76 rushing yards and 1 TD). JT Barrett fell three spots as Ohio State took its first loss of the season to Penn State in Happy Valley. Trevor Knight fell five spots as Texas A&M took its first loss of the season to Alabama.

Louisville’s game against Duke on Thursday was closer than expected, but they came out with the win and Jackson had a solid performance to remain atop the list. Both JT Barrett and Deshaun Watson had games that went to overtime, but escaped with wins to stay undefeated and remain at 2nd and 3rd in the rankings, respectively. Trevor Knight’s upcoming match-up with Alabama gives him a big time opportunity to make a case to move up in the rankings next week.

10 10 Chad Kelly QB Mississippi

Louisville had a bye this week, but Jackson remained atop the list. JT Barrett, Deshaun Watson and Trevor Knight all kept their teams undefeated. Peppers had a solid game in Michigan’s rout of Rutgers, improving his Heisman position. Houston’s loss to Navy likely ended their hopes of making the College Football Playoff and hurt Greg Ward’s Heisman chances as well.

The Louisville-Clemson match-up did not disappoint and neither did the star quarterbacks. Despite the loss, Lamar Jackson put up 295 passing yards and a touchdown along with 162 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Jackson holds on to the top spot, but the margin has shrunk.
